Any teacher who has taught a poetry unit has always run into these problems with many of their students: 1. They don’t like writing poetry, and 2. the students do not know what to write about. ]]> This Holiday Acrostic Poem & Writing Activity resource is an engaging activity for your students to reflect on hope, kindness, love, and other important values and themes in poetry and writing prompts. Acrostic poetry is a creative type of poetry where your students are instructed to use the letters of a word to start their poetic sentences. In this case, your students will be writing an Acrostic poem using the word, “hope”, “kind”, and/or “love”. If the Acrostic poem is too difficult or too time-consuming for your students, I also included a short writing prompt, “If you could have one wish for this holiday season, it would be…”. I wanted to add some variety to this activity, in case you needed to differentiate instruction.

To add to the engagement of this activity, the students will complete their final poem/writing prompt on an ornament/dreidel, cut and color the ornament/dreidel, and you can create a beautiful wreath using your students’ poems and/or writings. This is a perfect invitation when people enter your classroom-a gorgeous wreath made from your students’ work!

]]> This Christmas/Winter Homophone Coloring Activity is perfect for reviewing homophones’ in fun and interactive way! Since the old pen and paper style can be rather mundane and boring, I tried to turn it into a review activity that is fun, colorful, and engaging!

In this Christmas/Winter Homophone Coloring Activity, your students will review the homophones: Their/There/They’re; Your/You’re/Yours; Except/Accept; Effect/Affect. When the students answer the question properly, they are instructed to color parts of the design in a specific color. Who doesn’t love to color?!?!?

This is great to assess your students right before the Christmas/Holiday break!

]]> This Christmas Creative Writing Activity will be perfect for your students as they prepare for the holiday season. Most of us are familiar with Santa’s little helpers. Those cute, small elves not only make toys, but they are required to watch over the children, and make sure that they are behaving. If the children are naughty, the elves report back to Santa.

Each elf is designated to a child, and they move around houses quietly, checking on their children.
