Making an inference is a close reading skill that middle school students truly struggle with, and in many cases, have a very difficult time answering, whether it be in class or on the state test. Making an inference is a higher-level skill and technique that asks students to combine and synthesize two types of information-prior knowledge and current clues within the text.
This lesson and craftivity has students “dig” and read closely in the text to formulate inferences based on their prior knowledge and the clues that are provided.
