One of the skills my middle school students struggle with is critical thinking skills. Whether it is developmental or a metacognition skill (thinking about thinking), “thinking outside the box” is one of the most difficult abilities for middle school students to master. Therefore, it is important for students to practice analyzing texts to develop this skill.

This product works on two major skills: analyzing quotations and paraphrasing/summarizing. This product contains 30 quotations that ask students to paraphrase or put the author’s words into their own thoughts. Because students’ paraphrasing can be lengthy, this product also teaches students how to condense their writing by funneling their thoughts into a two-sentence summary.

The quotations that are featured are extremely motivational; therefore, they will encourage and inspire your students to be and do their best!

Quick Reads Reading Comprehension BUNDLE

Use this Quick Reads Reading Comprehension Bundle to help your students who struggle with their tracking, reading fluency, and comprehension. Reading is an important part of every student’s life, but many of our students struggle with reading comprehension and reading speed. Presently, students are not reading enough, impacting their comprehension skills and their reading speed. Therefore, I created this product to help with those two skills.

In this product, you are receiving:

9 Months of Quick Reads and Reading Comprehension

*Each month has 4 weeks of daily quick reads-1 minute, short reading passages in which the students can time their reading and practice their reading comprehension.

*Each week is its own separate flip book, where the students cut out the pages, stack, and staple, creating an easy, go-to packet.

*Each day has one comprehension question correlating with the passage. The comprehension questions are Common Core aligned covering:

*main idea

*sequence

*figurative language

*cause and effect

This Essay Writing Menus Bundle is perfect for walking your students through the components of an essay. These are created on 8.5 x 14 paper or legal size to the theme of a fine dining experience: the introduction is the appetizer, the body paragraph is the main course or entree, and the conclusion is the dessert and ice cream sundae! All you will have to do is print them on legal paper (they look so much better printed in color), and laminate them for future use. I printed a class set of my writing menus and laminated them; now I have them for future uses and quick access.
