Independent Reading {Challenges & Activities}
As many benefits as there are to reading, getting our students to read independently, can be, well, a challenge. It is not a priority to them, and for most, it is not the first thing they think about when they wake up. In this day in age, there are many distractions to take their mind off of reading. Reading is one of the most important attributes for a student. Reading consistently helps develop pacing, and fluency, and it has so many benefits. Research has shown that those who read consistently have higher GPAs and higher intelligence. In addition, reading improves analytical thinking, increases vocabulary, and improves memory, and writing skills.
