***Holiday Wreath for your Classroom***
The holiday season is a wonderful time for your students to reflect on hope, kindness, love, and other important values and themes; moreover, this is an engaging activity for your students to reflect on these values in poetry and writing prompts. Acrostic poetry is a creative type of poetry where your students are instructed to use the letters of a word to start their poetic sentences. In this case, your students will be writing an Acrostic poem using the word, “hope”, “kind”, and/or “love”. If the Acrostic poem is too difficult or too time-consuming for your students, I also included a short writing prompt, “If you could have one wish for this holiday season, it would be…”. I wanted to add some variety to this activity, in case you needed to differentiate instruction.
To add to the engagement of this activity, the students will complete their final poem/writing prompt on an ornament/dreidel, cut and color the ornament/dreidel, and you can create a beautiful wreath using your students’ poems and/or writings. This is a perfect invitation when people enter your classroom-a gorgeous wreath made from your students’ work!
