A Little About Me
I have been teaching 7th and 8th English at the middle school level for 19 years on Long Island, NY. I was born, grew up and settled here on Long Island, and I currently reside in Port Jefferson, a quaint town on the North Shore of the island.
Crazy enough, I went to college as a biology major at Stony Brook University, but I switched over to English as I quickly learned, biology was not for me.
I have a wonderful husband and an adorable 11-year-old son, who absolutely adores school and lacrosse (I am a goalie mom!). In addition to my Teachers Pay Teachers store, I actually ran a successful Etsy business, Word & Verse, for three years (I hand cut, hand painted signs, quotes, names, etc.); however, it became extremely inundating, and I was literally working two full-time jobs-teaching during the day, and Etsy at night. Sheesh.
Teaching Experience
Along my 21-year journey, not only have I taught 7th & 8th grade English, I also had the opportunity to teach a 6th grade exploratory character education class. Currently, I teach one 7th grade English class, one 8th grade Integrated class, one 8th grade English Honor’s class, and two Project-Based Learning classes.
All of my products I sell I have used within my own classroom to either modify, engage or excite my students. Because I have such an array of students and different levels, I have to really hone in on my creativity, imagination, as well as revise products to excite and challenge my students.
I advised National Junior Honor Society, and I have 9 years experiences directing drama. I have had the pleasure of directing The Sound of Music, High School Musical, The Wizard of Oz, The King & I, as well as different montages. I have had the opportunity to work with the cast of Phantom of the Opera, and Jerry Marin, the original “Lollipop Kid” from the Wizard of Oz, was in our production!
One of the wonderful parts of living on Long Island is that I am 40 minutes from Manhattan, and I have seen so many Broadway shows (Yes, I have seen Phantom of the Opera 7 times, as well as met the cast twice)! If you ever have the chance to come to New York City, make time to see a Broadway show. There are so many unbelievable shows, actors and actresses!
